Okay, here's how it is. I've been some places, done some things, seen some people, and came back. I've been through so much and sloughed off entire lives like a snake leaving behind a humiliatingly patterned layer of skin.
Where I've been is nowhere I'm going again, and what I know now won't let me turn around. I'm going on, and I'm prepared to go it alone.

This article mixes in a bit of good advice to try to pass of the constant fallacy of "intermittent fasting." The reason diets don't work is because people severely restrict their caloric intake to a point where it is not sustainable, and their bodies lose a bit of weight initially but then go into caloric conservation mode. After a little while, days or weeks, the dieting person starts to eat more again, and that conservation mode persists. The net result is weight *gain*, not loss. Fasting does NOTHING for long term weight loss. NO THING.
Do you really want to lose weight? Then STOP dieting, and commit to a lifestyle change. You KNOW you shouldn't be eating fast food. You KNOW candy bars and potato chips and ice cream are bad for you. Make a commitment and *stop* eating them! You KNOW you should be eating more vegetables, more whole grains, less meat, less refined sugars. You KNOW soda is bad for you. Stop beating around the bush and ACT on this knowledge! Four or five small meals a day, 300-500 calories each and including veggies, fruit, whole grains in most and limiting your meat intake to a couple times a week. Don't eat processed foods, even (especially?) if they claim to be reduced fat, or super healthy. Eat enough fiber! Figs are great for that, and they make a wonderful snack! Avoid trans fats as completely as possible - butter, not margarine! Count some calories! Treat yourself to something tasty once every week or two! EXERCISE!
These are long term changes that are easy to do, effective, simple and healthy. These are the precise steps I took to lose 40 lbs - WITHOUT intermittent fasting or starvation or denying myself over the holidays. I lost the weight and kept it off, and I didn't have to starve myself once!
I am sick to death of websites claiming they have a revolutionary new way to help you peel pounds off, or carbohydrate restriction advocates. You know what happens when you slow down your digestion by including a lot of protein at every meal? Your food gets more digested and YOU GET MORE CALORIC EXTRACTION. That's right, this guy is telling you to fast and feast, and to try to delay pooping for as long as you can.
Now I have to say that he did include a couple good things. First of all, your body constantly burns calories. EVERYONE'S body constantly burns calories (find out how many here: shapefit.com/basal-metabolic-rate.html [shapefit.com/basal-metabolic-rate.html] ) - in fact that's where most of your daily energy is expended. Secondly, resistance training can help build muscles which increase the basic metabolic rate - higher BMR means more calories a day burnt, even when resting. Cool, eh? Finally, YES relax, and YES get enough sleep.
But don't fast. That's stupid.
